Eric Carle I’m Not

I’m not an illustrator, though perhaps I always wished I had that talent. But all of this AI experimentation is about how to leverage the creativity I do have, with skills I do not.

Hence I wanted to see about creating a children’s book.

Create a page to go in a children’s book that features the letter A and all around the page are odd and fun things that start with that letter. Make it a colorful illustration and make the image square.

Other than “Alligaton”, exactly what I hoped for!

What is the aardvark looking at with its binoculars??

Sneaky doing “Apple Tree with Caterpillar”, especially when there’s no apple tree. And there is the aardvark again!

Always appreciate a bag of donuts. Um, is that really a dragonfly? And armadillo!?!

Those eagles are not emeralds… That is no armadillo. And I was just starting to think this would be a “Where’s armadillo?” book!

There’s the armadillo! And now a donkey is carried through. That ferry better watch out for the french fries! And don’t eat too many fluits off the tree!

Two kinds of golden gates!

That looks an awful lot like a two-headed horse. And now we have a persistent Golden Gate Bridge – tribute to my hometown?

We’re all thankful for illumination…

No, river never started with I, thanks for keeping that error alive.

We’ve lost a head on the horse. But at least we have our traditional katsu & ketchup!

I think my deck of cards is missing the lion cards, but at least my hot air balloon does have multiple lighthouses. But alas, no alphabet soup filled with lightbulbs…

Lots of mushrooms…

A river full of N.

Those olives are not oranges or onions; those otters are not okapi. Close, but no cigar (O).

That’s a tasty picnic!

Kids, don’t play with the quicksilver. It’s not a toy.

I said don’t play with the quicksilver!

Would have enjoyed a slug, but at least I have constellations…

Tops and tops and more tops…

Ancient buildings are now lighter than air. But maybe they were built with unicorn blocks.

Better be careful donkey and armadillo, that volcano is about to blow!

Everything’s blocks now…

I’ll ignore the flying box, but I want one of them x-ray fish!

Blocks, blocks, and flying blocks…

Zig-zag, zipper zoo!

While there were a lot of “hallucinations” in the above, I didn’t give up my quest to try and force “mistakes” (see https://www.usedideas.com/2026/02/26/mistakes/)

Now make a similar page for the letter %.

Not quite a letter… but still took a stab at it. More pages in my book, more profit coins in my pocket!

Finally, I really liked the yak with yarn from the page above, so I asked Gemini to:

Create an image using the same illustration style showing a yak but instead of its normal fur, it has a coat of yarn.

Keep an eye out for possible further adventures of Yarn the Yak.
