As I have been playing with AI to generate imagery, I’ve been listening to all the reporting online about the flood of data centers being planned and built all over the US and the world. There has been talk of data centers being built in far off places as well as in built up places. This led me to play with creating some imagery juxtaposing our daily lives and spaces with the voracious need for servers everywhere.
The first image I came up using Gemini was:
This one came to mind as it seemed the fitting balance between the wealth of the world’s information in printed form (right) next to the wealth of the world’s information in digital form (left).

The intent was always to create an Instagram feed and while I had set up @datacentersinthecommunity a while back, I’d not yet populated it.
Yesterday, I stumbled on Midjourney and after other experiments, I tried a different approach to these data center images. This time they were not only showing servers in our every day spaces, but this time with the element of time-shift.
Having created these, I felt it was time to finally update the Instagram account. First I uploaded a profile photo that I also created in Midjourney:
And then began to upload some of these photos. I made sure to mark both the account and the posts as generated by AI.
As I was uploading the images, they started slowly disappearing. In all, I tried to post the profile image and about 12 different images as posts, and all have been removed by moderators.
The sample above is representative of the photos. There’s nothing I can see that warrants them being brought down, unless one is worried about anything having to do with data centers…
